Volkswagen Secures Approval From German Regulator to Fix Emissions Software

Volkswagen has secured approval from Germany’s federal motor transport authority, Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), to fix emissions software on several models.

The company has already sent a letter to all of the affected owners, informing that their car is covered by the retrofit campaign.

Owners will now receive asking a second letter, asking them to make an appointment with an authorized dealer.

In various stages, the owners of the affected Passat, CC and Eos models with 2.0l TDI engines with power outputs of 81 kW, 100 kW and 103 kW will also receive a letter.

After the retrofit, which will be made free of charge, all cars will meet legal requirements and the software solution will not affect fuel consumption, performance or noise emissions, Volkswagen said.

Volkswagen Passenger cars brand responsible for sales, marketing and after-sales member of board of management Jürgen Stackmann said: "The launch of the retrofit campaign for the Passat, CC and Eos models involves a large number of cars that will now be recalled to the workshops.

"I am pleased that the retrofitting of over 800,000 of our customers' cars can now begin. Our dealerships and service partners are well prepared for the campaign."

Volkswagen will delay the launch of the recall campaign for cars equipped with 1.2-liter TDI EA 189 engines, which was initially planned to take place in the second quarter of this year.
