McLaren 570s Spider Makes World Debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed

McLaren Automotive has debuted new convertible Sports Series model, the 570S Spider, at Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.

The 570S Spider is powered by 3.8 litre V8 twin-turbocharged engine connected to a seven-speed gearbox, that helps in converting the raw power from the engine into 570PS (562hp) of output and 600Nm of torque.

It can accelerate from 0 to 100km per hour in 3.2 seconds and can reach up to a maximum speed of 328kmph (204mph) of top speed.

The 570S offers a fuel efficiency of 10.7 litres/100km (26.6mpg) and its carbon emissions are claimed to be 249g/km.

The convertible is, as claimed by McLaren is 46kg heavier than its predecessor the 570S Coupe, while offering structural rigidity. The rooftop can open or close in 15 seconds at speeds of 40kmph or 25mph.

McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt said: “The McLaren 570S Spider is the most attainable McLaren Spider to date and adds yet another dimension to the McLaren Sports Series family.

“This is a convertible without compromise; its mid-engined layout and carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis guarantee the same thrilling dynamic performance and exceptional driver involvement enjoyed in a 570S Coupé, but with the added attraction of a retractable hard-top that delivers the extra exhilaration of roof-down motoring.”

McLaren has priced the new 570S Spider at £164,750 for the UK market.

Recently, the British supercar-maker announced its sales for 2016. It earned a before tax profit of £9.2m from an annual sales revenue of £649.8m. It says that its profitability increased from £5.4m in 2015 to £9.2m for 2016. Its operating profit for the year was £65.8m, which was a 150% increase compared to 2015.
