Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo Car Group has expanded its hybrid vehicle line-up with the launch of the new Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid with R-Design.

The new vehicle is a revamped version of Volvo's V60 Plug-in Hybrid, which is claimed to be one of the best-selling hybrid-electrified vehicles in Europe during 2013.

V60 Plug-in Hybrid with R-Design is powered by a five-cylinder 2.4L turbodiesel generating 215hp and 440Nm of torque when paired with six-speed automatic transmission.

An electric motor with output of 68hp and 200Nm of Torque powers the rear axle of the hybrid car and is powered through an 11.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack placed under the floor of the loading compartment.

Volvo Car Group Marketing, Sales and Customer Service senior vice president Alain Visser said the company has sold about 8,000 plug-in hybrids in 2013.

"Adding the R-Design dynamic attributes to the V60 Plug-in Hybrid - the world's first diesel plug-in hybrid - will give its attractiveness another boost," Visser added.

According to the company, the V 60 R-design offers fuel consumption of 1.8L per 100 km the carbon dioxide emissions of 48g/km.

The vehicle comes with a button to choose drive options of combined or pure electric as the vehicle offers transit distance of 50km on pure electric power.

Features of the vehicle include new interior and exterior features, as well as R-Design front, rear diffusor and 18-inch Ixion wheels.
