Basf Strengthened The Production Capabilities of Its Production Site in Ludwigshafen

BASF has strengthened the production capabilities of its production site in Ludwigshafen, Germany to produce more quantity Ultramid C for flexible food packaging films.

As part of the project, the company enhanced a part of its Ultramid B (polyamide 6) production facility to produce Ultramid C (polyamide 6/6.6)

The new facility, which was put into operation earlier this year, has an annual capacity of 20,000 tons.

According to BASF, Ultramid helps reduce the amount of packaging material in flexible packaging solutions, while providing optimum protection for the product and increased shelf life.

BASF Polyamide strategic marketing vice president Rainer Gretter said, "The applications and demands are becoming increasingly diverse, especially in the area of flexible food packaging films.

"This expanded production setup for high performance polyamides enables us to respond to our customers' needs even quicker."

The company runs Ultramid polymerization plants in Ludwigshafen, Germany; Antwerp, Belgium; Freeport, Texas and Sao Paulo, Brazil with another plant under construction in Shanghai, China.
