Readymade Garment Exports From Bangladesh Grew 2.55% in The First Eight Months in 2014

Continuing its slow and steady trend, readymade garment exports from Bangladesh grew 2.55 per cent year-on-year in the first eight months of the ongoing fiscal that commenced on 1 July, 2014, data from the Export Promotion Bureau showed.

Garment Exports From Bangladesh up 2.55% in July-Feb FY15

During July-February 2014-15, garment exports from Bangladesh earned US$ 16.551 billion compared to exports of $16.138 billion made during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

Of this, knitwear exports rose by 2.88 per cent to $8.138 billion during the eight-month period, over exports of $7.91 billion made during the corresponding months of the previous fiscal, the data showed.

On the other hand, exports of woven apparel increased by 2.25 per cent to $8.413 billion during the period under review, compared to exports of $8.228 billion during the same period of 2013-14.

Woven and knitted apparel and clothing accessories’ exports together accounted for more than 81 per cent of $20.311 billion worth of total exports made by Bangladesh during the period under discussion.

In fiscal year 2013-14, Bangladesh’s clothing exports surged by 13.83 per cent to $24.491 billion, compared to exports of $21.515 billion made in 2012-13.

For fiscal year 2014-15, Bangladesh has set an export target of $13.215 billion for knitwear and $13.681 billion for woven garments.

US, Germany and the UK are top markets for Bangladeshi garments.
