N&S GAIA Ventured Into New Territories to Expand Their Search for Textiles

Designer Sidharth Sinha of N&S GAIA with his model arrived at the ‘Curtain Raiser’ Red Carpet area for a photo-op with the media expressing his view about upcoming collection for Fall/winter LFW Show.

They have ventured into new territories to expand their search for textiles from remote Bihar to Mizoram via Meghalaya. Through this journey of exploring they concluded upon two yarns, fine hand-spun wool and Bhagalpur silk which post weaving gives a sheer like canvas, which was ideal to be hand sprinkled with silk paint and natural dyes to give the textured wings of a butterfly.

Hence, their concentration on this textile as a base along side eri silk, khadi silk and cotton as blends with the involvement of indigenous tribal master weavers gave them hope on their quest for the new, meanwhile in Meghalaya they continued the Dakmanda craft - hand plucking while locking the weft in a fly shuttle loom, with more intricate bold patterns to blend in the old and the new.

Based on the inspiration they have worked on our interpretation of presenting the past in a surreal manner, focusing on fashion, its season and what their understanding is of Meta – Modernism. The silhouettes are irregular to structured pieced cuts consisting of drapes to deconstructions to manipulations of the textiles to give irregular texture emphasizing on the Organic Iridescent textured dyes and decayed surface with crumbled finishes and oxidized perished.

The color pallete we chose is nocturnal darks to urban drama. While being in constant touch with designer Sidharth Sinha's roots he has driven towards western sensibilities and committed to research and development in the areas of Natural Dyeing and Crafts of North East India.

The Brand N&S GAIA means Nature & Sustainability with revered guidance of Mother Nature, entails the fall winter collection taking inspiration from Moths and butterflies that once were abundant in the hunch back hills of Meghalaya. Designer Sidharth Sinha used Nature as a visual source to bring emotion, imagination and spontaneity into the often-uncompromising lines of modern minimalism hence fusing fantasy with nature creating mystical spaces and shapes that can be uplifting and alluring.
