Brazil's Iron Ore Export Volume Increased by 5.74 Percent Year on Year in Q1

Brazil's iron ore export volume amounted to 24.47 million mt in March this year, increasing by 8.13 percent compared to February and up 8.39 percent compared to the same month of 2013, according to the information released by the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade. Brazil's iron ore export value in March totaled $2.39 billion, increasing by 9.08 percent compared to the previous month and down 4.34 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the first quarter of this year, Brazil's iron ore export volume increased by 5.74 percent year on year to 71.80 million mt.

In March, Brazil's export volume of semi-finished products of iron and steel amounted to 381,332 mt, decreasing by 10.94 percent compared to the previous month and down 25.15 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, while these exports were valued at $197.40 million, decreasing by 9.01 percent compared to February and down 23.63 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the first three months of the current year, Brazil's export volume of semi-finished products of iron and steel amounted to 1.26 million mt, down 21.46 percent year on year.

On the other hand, in March Brazil's flat steel exports totaled 78,671 metric tons, decreasing 23.39 percent from February and down 35.01 percent year on year. The revenue generated by these exports totaled $71.64 million, decreasing by 12.79 percent month on month and down 25.88 percent from the March 2013 level. In the first quarter of this year, Brazil's flat steel exports decreased by 28.08 percent year on year to 384,401 mt.
