Top Industry Speakers,Will Be Descending on Birmingham's NEC Next Month

Top industry speakers from big names, including Marks & Spencer and B&Q, will be descending on Birmingham's NEC next month to take part in the Total Processing and Packaging Exhibition's seminar programme. The show runs from 4-6 June and the event's organisers hope to pull in crowds to listen to the hottest debates as well as understanding the big topics in the processing and packaging industry.

The show comprises of three events – Pakex, Interphex and the PPMA Show? –? and will host several seminar programmes in the Pakex Innovation Hub, the Manufacturing Forum and the Interphex Theatre. Pakex is thought to be one of the world's oldest packaging events. The show incorporates all elements of packaging, including; packaging innovations, packaging machinery, packaging materials and packaging services.

Pakex Innovation Hub

On the second day (5 June) of the show Packaging News features editor Philip Chadwick will be chairing the programme, which kicks off with? Joe Schurtz, executive vice president of Perception Research Services. He will reveal what shoppers look at when they buy products. Speaking from 11am-11.45am he will share insights into what is driving shoppers in 2013 and look at how their relationship with packaging is developing into the future.

Next up, from 12pm-12.45pm, is B&Q brand realisation manager Jonathan Couper who will discuss the importance of colour management across a global retail supply chain.? The talk will also highlight the potential benefits in managing colour for both product and packaging, how B&Q approached delivering colour excellence across a global retail supply chain, the barriers it faced, the key lessons and the look of the final programme.

The final presentation of the day, from 1pm-1.45pm, comes from Ashwin Moorthy, head of engineering and innovation at Nampak Plastics. He will be joined by Marks & Spencer commercial and environmental packaging manager Andrew Speck and a representative from Dairy Crest. They will? explore milk packaging and the journey of Nampak's Infini bottle.

Interphex Theatre

Interphex is dedicated to manufacturing products for the pharmaceutical industry.

On Tuesday 4 June from 1pm-1.45pm, Alan Spreckley of ABB Robotics and John Roberts of Astech Projects will be examining the topic of automating pharmaceutical applications from a robotic perspective. The? experts will be a looking at the positive contribution that robots can make in packaging and other handling applications in the pharmaceutical industry.

Christoph Kr?henbühl of EFPIA's Coding and Serialisation, will be speaking at the Interphex Theatre on the following day (5 June) from 11am-11.45am on preparing for the EU Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD). This seminar will detail the relevant FMD requirements and explain how these will impact? companies and what participation will mean for manufacturers in practical terms.

The Manufacturing Forum

The PPMA Show will be presenting leaders in the industry showcasing the very best in processing and packaging machinery. Speaking at the Manufacturing Forum on Tuesday 4 June? from? 12pm-12.45pm, Russell Page of Picme (Process Industries Centre for Manufacturing Excellence) will be advising the exhibition's visitors about how change over reduction can radically improve bottom lines. He will ask the question: 'Why your supply chain must also change to take advantage of your changeover reduction activities?'

Later in the afternoon, from 1pm-1.45pm, sustainability expert Sandy Smith of PE International will discuss how the sustainability agenda is maturing into? a core business activity.

Pressures for resource efficiency and future policy, regulatory and supply chain drivers are increasing with the focus now moving from the 'nice phrases and statements' to, what she calls, real sustainability performance measurements, such as environmental product declarations.
