Brazilian Crude Steel Production Was 1.4% Lower Year on Year

According to the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr), Brazilian crude steel production in the first 11 months of the current year amounted to 31.52 million metric tons, 1.4 percent lower year on year. In the same period, Brazilian rolled steel output increased by 1.9 percent to 24.23 million metric tons, including 13.70 million metric tons of flat products - up 0.3 percent, and 10.53 million metric tons of long products - up four percent, all on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, Brazilian steelmakers produced 2.71 million metric tons of crude steel in November of the current year, down 9.04 percent from October and down 2.8 percent year on year. Brazil's rolled steel product output totaled 2.20 million mt in November, decreasing by 3.63 percent month on month and up 2.4 percent year on year. Of this total, the country's flat steel output stood at 1.22 million mt, decreasing by 5.88 month on month and down six percent year on year, while Brazil's long steel output amounted to 980,8 metric tons, decreasing by 0.68 percent month on month and up 15.1 percent compared to November 2012.

Brazilian domestic steel sales rose by 3.7 percent year on year in November this year to 1.77 million metric tons, while domestic sales in the first 11 months totaled 21.16 million metric tons, increasing by 5.5 percent year on year.

Brazil's exports of steel products in November amounted to 622,300 metric tons, falling by 21.1 percent, and worth US$438.40 million, down 12.6 percent, both compared to November 2012. Steel product exports in the first 11 months this year totaled 7.49 million mt, worth US$5.14 billion, with decreases of 16.4 percent in volume and 20.6 percent in value compared to the corresponding period of 2012.

Meanwhile, the country's steel import volume in November increased by 9.3 percent year on year to 305,100 metric tons (US$334,50 million), while total steel imports in the first 11 months amounted to 3.48 million metric tons (US$4 billion), representing a 6.1 percent decrease from the same period last year.
