Pakistan Exported US$ 8.483 Billion Worth of Textiles During July to February

Posting a year-on-year rise of 6.55 percent, Pakistan exported US$ 8.483 billion worth of textiles during July to February—the first eight months of the ongoing financial year 2012-13, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data shows.
 
During the same period of the previous fiscal, Pakistan’s textile and apparel exports stood at US$ 7.962 billion.
 
With a year-on-year rise of 31.27 percent, cotton yarn turned out to be the biggest contributor to the country’s textile and garment exports.
 
Other commodities that positively contributed to the sector’s export growth include cotton cloth, whose exports rose by 11.77 percent year-on-year, knitwear grew by 2.29 percent y-o-y and yarn other than cotton yarn by 5.08 percent y-o-y.
 
Towel exports surged by 15.56 percent y-o-y, readymade garments by 8.76 percent y-o-y, tents, canvas and tarpaulin by 34.22 percent y-o-y, madeup articles excluding towels and bedwear by 6.04 percent y-o-y and other textile materials by 47.41 percent y-o-y.
 
The items that depicted negative export growth include raw cotton, whose exports plummeted by 63.3 percent y-o-y, bedwear by 2.88 percent y-o-y, synthetic textiles by 27.6 percent y-o-y and cotton carded or combed by 83.47 percent y-o-y.
 
According to the PBS data, Pakistan’s textile exports for February this year plummeted by 6.83 percent y-o-y and 4.13 percent compared to January 2013 exports.
