India Kappas Arrivals Are About 70,000 Bales Per Day for Fortnight Ending May 31

The all India kappas arrivals per day are approximately 70,000 bales per day for fortnight ending May 31. As per trade sources till now approximately 3 crore 60 lakh bales of kappas have arrived in the market out of the expected crop of 3 crore 71 lakh bales are predicted. Also reports from trade sources say that 95 lakh bales have been shipped out of the 1 crore bales registered for exports.

In most of the present kappas arrivals all over India quality has dropped drastically as the monsoon season is coming close. As Farmers have received good rates for their kappas all through the season, they may be motivated to sow more cotton in the upcoming cotton season. Cotton prices may elevate on the slowdown of arrivals.

Monsoon is on the kick start stage in a couple of days. Farmers group already reports of collecting proper inputs like seed, manure and soil leveling, arranging initial water facilities etc. BT cotton had removed their worries on the serious menace of pest attack, during last two seasons in particular.

Punjab /Haryana/Rajasthan:
During the current fortnight, cotton sowing is almost on completion stage with more of BT seeds. Early sown plants, germination could be seen in some tracts. Kappas arrivals are almost over. Cotton prices are on a sober level as the quality lots were already over. Local prices of J.34 Roller ginned ranged from Rs.4600 to 4750 per maund spot of average quality as per trade sources. Cotton planting area may sustain as last season. Cloudy weather could be seen.

Gujarat:
In Gujarat, daily arrivals dropped to 20000 bales against All India average of about 75000 bales. During last fortnight, total arrivals were about 30,000 bales in Gujarat against All India average of 75000 bales. Inspite of drop in arrivals, prices are ruling weak due to two issues, like quality deterioration and weak domestic and export demand. Prices of S.6, was ruling as on date Rs.41,500 to Rs.42,000 spot per candy for 28.5 mm to 29mm staple length. Micronaire is an issue, and more of admixture with further (second and third picking) quality is reported, resulting in bale to bale mic variation. Average quality 28mm S-6 is quoted at Rs.40,000/- spot per candy while good stock lots are sold at Rs.43,000/- spot per candy.

Maharashtra:
Low micronaire 28mm cotton is procured by exporters at Rs.39,000/-spot per candy. While 29mm with 3.2 micronaire is procured by domestic mills at Rs.41,000/-spot per candy. Daily average arrivals have come down to 21000 bls. Farmers have started soil preparations and input collection to avoid last minute rush. They depend mostly on local sourcing. Agriculture Dept. also helps to guide them. Here women and young farmers are more active as per trade sources. Farmers group supports BT seeds as they are pest resistant.

Madhya Pradesh:
In M.P, quality variation is reported in both MECH.1 and DCH.32. Prices quoted for 28.5 mm to 29mm MECH.1 at Rs.42,500 per candy spot is only nominal and no business reported in this quality.

In MP also, further quality is available at plenty with prices ranging from Rs.32,000 to Rs.37,000 per candy spot for staple length from 24mm to 25mm, with no guarantee for quality. DCH.32 rates are ruling at Rs.58,500 to Rs.59,000 per candy spot for 34mm staple length and South Mills bought at this rate, about one week back, on immediate payment terms. Soil preparations and input collection have begun as they foresee timely monsoon. Arrivals are hardly around 2500 bales a day.

Andhra Pradesh:
The quality of cotton has dropped drastically in most of the cotton growing areas. In Adilabad 26mm cotton is quoted at Rs.35,000/- spot per candy. While 28mm cotton in Warangal is quoted at Rs.40,500/-spot per candy and 31 mm Guntur cotton is priced at Rs.44,500/-spot per candy. Daily arrivals are around 15000 bls with wide quality variations. Prices were supportive and acreage for next season will be sustained if not more as per farmers group.

Karnataka:
On one side kappas arrivals have drastically started dropping, while in North Karnataka in a small pocket called Guttal, an expected crop of approximately 10,000 bales of Bunny kappas has started arriving.

This pocket was famous for its Dch-32 cotton. The prices for good quality Dch-32 is Rs.65,000/- spot per candy. Good quality 30mm Bunny stock lots is sold at Rs.44,500/-spot per candy in North Karnataka while in the Raichur belt 29 mm Bunny is sold at Rs.42,500/-spot per candy. Jaydhar is sold at Rs.30,500/- spot per candy. Sowings of kappas has started in most of the borewell irrigated areas of North Karnataka after they received a few good showers in the last one month. If nature supports with timely rains, the kappas will start arriving in some pockets in the end of August. Cotton sowing has begun in irrigated and recently rained tracks in small way. Farmers have done well in this season and all expectations are that the Karnataka Farmers also march towards adoption of area doubling in cotton crop. State Govt. plans to assist the cotton Farmers in increasing area to attract value additions.
