Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Mit) Has Launched Hubcab - a Transportation Trackin

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has launched HubCab - a transportation tracking tool, in collaboration with German automaker Audi and GE.

HubCab is transportation tracking tool that uses real time urban data to develop connected car technologies that reduce congestion, improve safety and make urban driving less stressful.

This project is collaborative work by Audi and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Senseable City Lab to improve transportation efficiency systems.

The new tool keeps track of over 150 million taxi rides in New York City in a year and enables researchers to find commuter travel patterns using the data to develop an efficient car share system.

Senseable City Lab director Carlo Ratti said: "Today it is mostly about fixed assets - such as homes on AirBNB. But tomorrow, it will increasingly involve our mobility infrastructure, blurring the difference between public and private transportation."

HubCab offers users with data on exactly when and where taxis pick up and drop individuals in New York City.

MIT Senseable City Lab Paolo Santi and Michael Szell said: "The HubCab project makes visible the immense benefits in New York City's taxi system that would arise from just sharing a cab."
