Ginneries in Pakistan Received 13.385 Million Bales of Cotton as on April 1, 2014

Ginneries in Pakistan received 13.385 million bales of cotton as on April 1, 2014, according to the consolidated statement of cotton arrivals in factories of Pakistan, prepared by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners' Association (PCGA), using data collected with joint cooperation of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) and the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA).   The fortnightly report showed that cotton arrival increased slightly by 3.86 percent compared to arrival of 12.888 million bales during the same period in the previous season 2012-13.   According to the data, total cotton arrivals grew by 1.49 percent year-on-year to 9.625 million bales in Punjab province, and by 10.47 percent year-on-year to 3.76 million bales in Sindh province during 2013-14 season so far.   Of the total arrival of 13.385 million bales, around 13.379 million bales were pressed by ginners, of which 12.689 million bales were sold, leaving an unsold stock of 690,717 bales with the ginners, as on April 1, the data showed.  

The textile mills in Pakistan consumed 12.307 million bales of cotton, while another 382,006 bales were bought by exporters, as per the data.   As on April 1, 2014, a total of 19 ginning factories were operational in Punjab compared to 45 ginneries that were operational during the same time last season.   Similarly, only 2 ginning units were operational in the Sindh region, as against 9 units being operational during the corresponding period last year.   Meanwhile, Pakistan's Federal Committee on Cotton (FCC) has fixed the country's cotton production target at 15.1 million bales of 170 kg each for 2014-15 season.
