Gerdt Furniture Has Gone out of Business Following The Liquidation of Its Inventory

Gerdt Furniture here has gone out of business after 53 years following the liquidation of its inventory.

Sales and liquidation specialist Deere Park Assn. supervised the going-out-of-business sale, and Focus Media, which works closely with Deere Park, directed advertising and marketing for the event, using broadcast television, direct mail and newspaper advertising.

Deere Park assisted in liquidating both the 60,000-square-foot store on E. Southport Road in Indianapolis as well as Gerdt's 100,000-square-foot distribution center in Greenwood, Ind.

The 10-week sale generated more than $6 million in sales, or more than a year's worth of business, while advertising costs were held to less than 3% of sales, according to a release. By the end of the sale, no inventory remained and all customer orders were delivered and service completed, the company said.
