Let's face it,let's admit it:bathrooms are not very big. There's a reason why the toilet is known as the'smallest room in the house',and that's because, quite often,it's tacked into a room full to bursting with showers, sinks and,in the middle of all that,a very cramped householder.

However,it seems small bathroom'd property owners in the UK are waking up,as interior deign guru Roger Crabb notes. The Mira Showers representative has his hawk-like eye on the UK bathroom trends each year, and for 2012,sleek is in.

"There's certainly a trend for sleek design and maximising space in what inevitably is quite a small bathroom area,"said the expert."In the UK,many bathrooms are no bigger than two metres by two metres, and many people are just trying to maximise space."

The expert notes that a glut of tech is making it's way into bathrooms to make the most of the available space, from digital shower controls to TV screens to enjoy while you bathe.

And for that reason,it's important to keep a neat, manageable lid on your clutter. As Stylelist Magazine's decluttering experts Stacy Platt and Sarah Hayon note, despite being the smallest room, bathrooms can be a magnet for clutter:swabs and pads and those little picks you floss your teeth with all swoop into bathrooms like a moth to a flame.

So simple changes such as how you choose to store your towels can make a difference."Rolled towels take up less space than folded ones, and a pyramid of fresh towels make you feel like you're at the spa,"the experts said.

And if folding up your towels doesn't save enough space, think about your lighting. In bathrooms, clunky waterproof fittings or cobwebbed old lampshades can pry into your headspace,so switching them out for flush bathroom ceiling spotlights ensures you can continue the sleek theme to every corner of your washroom.
