The Hefty Revenue Growth Topped Not Only The 13-18% Range Set by The Company

Taipei, Oct. 11, 2012 (CENS)--Industry executives estimated MediaTek Inc.'s earnings per share (EPS) for the second half of this year at the range of NT$8.06-NT$9.18, citing the better-than-expected 25.73% quarter-on-quarter increase of the company's revenue for the third quarter.

The hefty revenue growth topped not only the 13-18% range set by the company but also the 24% projected by the market.

The planned EPS range represents a growth of 56.81% to 78.60% from its first-half EPS of NT$5.14. Once the estimated second-half goal is achieved, the company's EPS for the whole year would be NT$13.2 to NT$14.32.

In September, the company's consolidated revenue of NT$11 billion (US$366.9 million) hit a 29-month high. Its consolidated revenue for the third quarter was NT$29.4 billion (US$982 million), of which sales from smartphone chips outweighing those from feature-phone chips for the first time.

Industry executives estimated the company's EPS for the third quarter at NT$4.04-4.77 as they projected the company would maintain gross margin rate at around 42% in the third quarter, better than the 40.78% it registered in the second quarter.

They estimated the company to make NT$4.02-4.41 in EPS in the fourth quarter, with its revenue for the fourth quarter to slip less than 1% from the third quarter.

Although demands for chips used in TVs and storage medias would decline in the fourth quarter from the third quarter, the market for smartphone chips will remain strong in the fourth quarter as smartphone makers in mainland China are building up inventories for the Chinese New Year shopping season. MediaTek supplies these categories of chips and is already the mainland's No.1 supplier of mobile phone chips.
