The Total Revenue of Taiwan Listed LED Vendors Plunged to NT$10.6 Billion in June

The total revenue of Taiwan listed LED vendors plunged to NT$10.6 billion (US$354.63 million) in June 2013, as the LED market was affected by declining demand for backlight applications and stocktaking, according to research firm LEDinside. Additionally, revenues of listed LED chip manufacturers located in Taiwan reached NT$3.97 billion, while LED package manufacturers' revenues grew to NT$6.63 billion.

Facing decreasing demand and revenues in the backlighting market, Taiwan-based LED vendors have shifted focus to lighting products in hopes revenues from the backlighting segment can compensate.

Meanwhile, Taiwan companies including Epistar, Everlight, and Lextar have become ODMs or OEMs for major international lighting brands, but will need to focus on profitable products that offer more differentiation to break free from competitive OEM pricing wars, said the firm.

LEDinside also said that research firm WitsView has lowered its TV shipment estimates made earlier in 2013 from 216 million to 209 million in 2013, with annual growth rate reaching only 1.1%, which is likely to affect backlighting shipments as well.
