China Imported 39,000 Tons of Polysilicon in First-Half 2013, 33%

China-based makers will produce 80,000 tons of polysilicon and 23GWp of crystalline silicon PV modules in 2013, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

China imported 39,000 tons of polysilicon in first-half 2013, 33% of which came from the US, 29% from South Korea and 24% from Germany, MIIT indicated. The import volume for the whole year is estimated at 60,000-80,000 tons.

China exported 7.6GWp of PV modules worth nearly US$5 billion in first-half 2013, decreasing 37% on year. Half of the products were shipped to Europe.

China-made polysilicon PV modules have seen prices rise from CNY4 (US$0.65)/W in early 2013 to CNY4.3/W currently, while mainstream production cost has decreased to US$0.5-0.6/W and is expected to further drop to below US$0.5/W by the end of 2013.

The global PV market demand totaled about 16GWp in first-half 2013, growing 9% on year. It included 3GWp in Japan, 2.8GWp in China, 1.9GWp in Germany and 1.6GWp in the US. Global installation in 2013 is estimated at 35GWp, including 10GWp in Europe, 8GWp in China, 5GWp in Japan and 3.5GWp in the US.

The estimated 2013 total installation of 8GWp in China will consist of 5GWp for large-scale PV power-generating stations, 1GWp for distributed PV power-generating farms and 2GWp for roof-mounted and building-integrated PV systems.
