Lotus F1 Has Selected Juniper Networks to Build Mission-Critical Networking Infrastructure

Lotus F1 has selected Juniper Networks to build mission-critical networking infrastructure to aid its racing, testing and car design.

The announcement comes days before Lotus competes at the Formula One World Championship British Grand Prix at Silverstone, with the team currently sitting in fourth position in the Constructer's Championship.

Juniper Networks' technology has been chosen to improve flexibility and enhance performance across the entire Lotus F1 operation, from the garages at trackside to the team's factory in Enstone, Oxfordshire. Juniper network solutions adopted by Lotus include switching, security, wireless LAN, routing and application software solutions.

Lotus has also deployed Juniper QFabric technology across its data centres in an effort to reduce latency and improve performance in the cloud environment.

"From the design concept of each season's car, through component engineering and production to testing, qualifying and competing at each race, we have to deliver innovation and excellence with no margin for failure, error or delay," said Patrick Louis, CEO of Lotus F1 Team.

"Our network underpins the entire operation, so we need a partner who is equally innovative and reliable, and who can secure the highly valuable data we share across the team. Juniper enables Lotus F1 Team to build the best network so we can strive to be the best grand prix team."

Sean Dolan, EMEA senior vice president for Juniper Networks, also welcomed the partnership.

"Grand prix racing is literally a fast-moving enterprise, with a highly competitive, success-driven culture," he said.

"Trackside conditions are particularly challenging, with heat, dust, vibration and the need to build and tear down a reliable, secure network infrastructure quickly in a new location every couple of weeks or so.

"We are very excited by the prospect of Juniper's technology operating in this environment and playing a part in Lotus F1 Team's 2013 campaign and beyond."

Lotus F1 CIO Graeme Hackland recently told Computing how IT and data are helping the team push towards its goal of winning the FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
