Nokia Lumia 1020 Crops up on The Internet

A new device that appears to be a follow-up to the Nokia Lumia 1020 has cropped up on the internet.

The first ever Microsoft Lumia device may have been the low-end Lumia 535, but Microsoft evidently has a high-end model in the works.

Photos have leaked on a Chinese auction site of a sleek-looking Lumia camera phone. As you can see, the exaggerated camera bump reveals a Lumia device with a camera sensor that's similar in size to the Nokia Lumia 1020's 41-megapixel unit.

The mystery device is labelled as the "Nokia RM-1052," runs on Windows Phone 8.1, and boasts 5-inch 1080p display and 2GB of RAM. Also notable is the fact that the phone has a predominantly aluminium body, but with a pronounced plastic strip along the bottom.

Of course, this wouldn't be the first time the designers at Nokia (now Microsoft) have played with such a combination of materials. The Nokia Lumia 925 had an aluminium body but a polycarbonate rear panel.

Interestingly, the new phone has a couple of camera elements that represent a step back from the ageing Lumia 1020. It lacks a mechanical shutter for one thing, while the flash is bog-standard LED rather than xenon.

It's been suggested that this phone could be a prototype. Besides its generally unfinished-looking state, the text on the back of the phone is typically used on Nokia prototypes.

It's also entirely possible that this is a cancelled phone that will never see the light of day. It was rumoured in the past that Microsoft was working on the 'McLaren,' a Nokia Lumia 1020 follow-up, which was ultimately cancelled.
