Most local LED driver IC vendors in China outperformed international and Taiwan-based rival companies in terms of shipments in 2013. Bright Power Semiconductor and Silan Microelectronics were the top-two LED driver IC suppliers in China in 2013, according to industry sources.
Taiwan-based On-Bright Electronics and Silergy took the seventh and eighth positions in China's LED driver IC segment in 2013, each with shipment values totaling about NT$400-500 million (US$13.2-16.5 million), the sources added.
In order to compete effectively in China's LED driver IC market, On-Bright, Silergy and other Taiwan-based IC vendors including Richtek Technology, Global Mixed-mode Technology (GMT) and Microblock have recently come out with new modularized LED driver solutions with competitive pricing, the sources revealed.
The price/performance ratios of new LED driver solutions rolled by Taiwan's IC design houses are also higher compared to those available in China, which should help Taiwan makers expand their share in the mid-range to high-end segment, added the sources.
