Full Install The LED Outdoor Lights in The Near Future

The western side of the Bay Bridge in San Francisco is set to be fully installed with LED outdoor lights in the near future.

Artist Leo Villareal is creator of The Bay Lights and it will see 25,000 LED illuminations installed on the suspension span, when it is finished.

Indeed,on January 3rd,workers began to hang lights on the bridge.Teams of workers were mounting LED outdoor lights and control boxes on the vertical cables and this will continue during weeknights until the last of the illuminations has been installed.

The energy-efficient lighting system mounted in single strands on the bridge's vertical cables will use 150 to 175 kilowatt hours of energy while they are in operation for approximately seven hours every night.

This installation is a light sculpture that has been inspired by the 75th anniversary of the Bay Bridge.

Mr Villareal will network the 25,000 individually programmable white LED lights in order to create complex algorithms and patterns all along the western span.

Organisers believe that The Bay Lights will be the world's largest LED light sculpture,KTVU reports.

The lighting ceremony in which the installation will be unveiled is set to be on March 5th.

It is set to cost around$11,000(£6,800)a year in energy to illuminate the piece, which translates to$30 a day.

Dedicated solar panels are to be installed so that the energy used by The Bay Lights is offset.

Organisers in the city have raise close to 70 per cent of the$8 million in private funding required for the project and now seek$2.3 million to finish off the project.

Mr Villareal told the news provider:"So we're 40 per cent of the way there in terms of the installation.Very soon we'll be able to start turning on lights and seeing what they can do."

It was recently announced that three neighbourhoods in San Francisco were also testing whether using LED light bulbs would be financially viable in the future.
