US Domestic Raw Steel Production Was 1,875,000 Net Tons

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, in the week ending May 24, 2014, US domestic raw steel production was 1,875,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 78.0 percent. Production was 1,833,000 net tons in the week ending May 24, 2013, while the capability utilization then was 76.5 percent. The current week production represents a 2.3 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending May 24, 2014 is up 2.0 percent from the previous week ending May 17, 2014 when production was 1,838,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 76.4 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through May 24, 2014 was 37,645,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 76.2 percent. That is a 0.6 percent decrease from the 37,858,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.8 percent.
