Sales of The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Exceeded 40,000 in November

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Tops 40, 000 Australian Sales

Sales of the current-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class exceeded 40,000 in November, cementing the premium mid-sized model’s position as the local division’s most successful vehicle ever.

Mercedes-Benz Australia delivered 519 third-generation C-Class sedans and wagons last month, helping it exceed the milestone figure in its seventh year on the market, having launched in July 2007. C-Class Coupe sales take the total number beyond 45,000 units.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class has dominated sales in Australia’s premium medium segment since its introduction, claiming the crown over its core rivals – the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series – every year since 2008. Sales were consistent in each of those years, with a low of 6163 in 2009 followed by a 6693-unit high the next year.

This year is on track to be the worst full year for the current-generation C-Class in Australia, coinciding with the launch of the new Lexus IS in July, the presence of a significantly newer 3 Series (launched in February 2012), and the impending launch of the all-new fourth-generation C-Class in the second half of 2014.

Despite sales declining 7.4 per cent so far this year, the C-Class will still top its class in 2013, edging the 3 Series by roughly 500 units. The Mercedes leads the BMW 5528 units to 5084 with one month of sales remaining.

Mercedes-Benz Australia will achieve record sales in 2013, with year-to-date sales up 23.5 per cent over last year to 25,089.
