GET Is Likely to Establish an Overseas PV Module Factory

Viewing that the US Department of Commerce's decision on preliminary anti-dumping tariffs on PV products imported from China and Taiwan will have a negative impact on Taiwan PV makers, solar-grade polycrystalline silicon wafer maker Green Energy Technology (GET) is likely to establish an overseas PV module factory, according to the company.

While GET's operations will not be affected by the anti-dumping taxation, Gintung Energy, a PV module joint venture set up by GET and solar cell maker Gintech Energy, has to locate production outside of Taiwan and China to avoid the taxes on its exports to the US, GET indicated.

GET plans to have Gintung produce PV modules at Tatung's, GET's parent company, factory in Mexico mainly for exports to the US market, GET said. In order to avoid the anti-dumping taxation, Gintung can use GET-produced solar-grade wafers but not Gintech-produced solar cells, GET indicated.
