Taiwan Shin Kong Security to Export Entertainment Robots Sometime in 2015

Taiwan Shin Kong Security Co., Ltd. (SKS), Taiwan's second-biggest private security company, will begin to export entertainment robots sometime in 2015. The company aims to ship about 100 units over the year and generate revenue up to NT$100 million (US$3.22 million at US$1:NT$31).

SKS' robot operations are focused mainly on non-manufacturing models. The company will strengthen its R&D capability in the sector by introducing two investors specializing in machinery and mobile phones at its wholly-owned robot subsidiary.

SKS executives pointed out that the subsidiary will increase its capitalization to NT$200 million (US$6.45 million) by the end of 2015 after the two investors join the company.

SKS also plans to introduce healthcare and disaster-monitoring robots in 2015.

According to SKS, the healthcare robot, codenamed 6S, is designed to remotely monitor senior citizens and young children at home. The company expects the robot to win consumers with its cute design and low price of NT$5,000 (US$161.29). Monitoring is handled by a dedicated app downloaded from the company's website.

The disaster-monitoring robot has a unmanned navigation system and is designed to monitor disaster sites, bridge structures, and exterior building walls.
