Country-of-Origin Labeling Rules Will Be Expanded at Restaurants by South Korea

South Korean government has announced its decision pertaining to the expansion of the country-of-origin labeling rules to include agricultural and fishery products that are sold at restaurants.

The latest move is part of the government's efforts in a bid to improve the consumers'right to select the food they eat,yonhapnews.co.kr reported.

Under the new regulations, restaurant owners need to label pork for delivery and mutton with where they were produced and should also include the exact information with regard to country-of-origin labeling for living fish that is stored or displayed in each of the store at fish tanks.

A total of 12 agricultural and fishery items are under the labeling rules at present, which include rice, kimchi, beef, pork and flat fish.

Various types of pork for delivery, which include pig trotters and mutton have been imported and circulated, but are excluded from labeling.
