Peugeot 308 SW Has Been Revealed to Expand The French Brand'S All-New Small Car Range

Peugeot 308 SW: Compact Wagon Revealed

The Peugeot 308 SW has been revealed, expanding the French brand’s all-new small car range with a versatile wagon body style.

The 4580mm Peugeot 308 SW is 330mm longer than the new 308 hatchback, and features a 610-litre boot, bettering the hatch by 190L.

Peugeot says the 308 wagon’s rear seats can be folded in a single action from inside the boot to create a flat cargo floor for transporting longer and larger items.

Like the hatch, the 308 SW wagon is based on the car maker’s new Efficient Modular Platform 2, which Peugeot says contributes to a 140kg weight saving and enhances the car’s dynamic ability.

The wagon will inherit the hatch’s 1.2- and 1.6-litre petrol and 1.6- and 2.0-litre diesel engines, the most frugal of which, the 1.6 BlueHDi, emits just 85 grams per kilometre of CO2, roughly translating to combined cycle fuel consumption of 3.2 litres per 100km.

The Peugeot 308 SW’s dashboard and instrument cluster design, dubbed ‘i-Cockpit’, mirrors that of the hatch. The clean, minimalistic layout features a large central touchscreen and a smaller colour display between the instrument binnacles, as well as premium-looking chrome and metal trim highlights and surrounds.

The Peugeot 308 SW will debut at March’s Geneva motor show. It will be produced in Sochaux, France, before going on sale across Europe in the second quarter of the year.

The all-new Peugeot 308 hatch will reach local showrooms in the final quarter of 2014, though Peugeot Australia spokeswoman Jaedene Hudson says at this stage it’s unclear if the SW variant will join it.

Hudson said details of the local range would be finalised closer to its launch.

The outgoing 308 SW is available in Peugeot Australia’s current line-up in three trim levels and with three engines, priced from $31,990 to $38,990.
