Officials Are Meeting Moy Park Management to Save 300 Jobs at The Firm's Wisbech Factory

Officials from Unite the union are meeting Moy Park management today (March 20) in a bid to save 300 jobs at the firm's Wisbech poultry products factory in Cambridgeshire.

Union officials and Moy Park management are meeting today to discuss the future of 300 jobs at the Wisbech site

Moy Park said it had started a consultation to move jobs to an alternative site. “This proposal would result in major investment in our Grantham site and the repositioning of our Wisbech site as a cooked sliced meat facility,” said a spokeswoman.

If the plans are confirmed the affected employees will be offered a guaranteed option of full redeployment to other manufacturing sites within the group, she added.

‘Morale at rock bottom’

But Unite official Mark Plumb told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “Morale is absolutely at rock bottom. The news [of Moy Park's plans] came as an enormous shock to the loyal, dedicated and flexible workforce.”

While Moy Park had offered to redeploy the workforce to Grantham or Anwick, that would mean a two to three hour car journey on top of an eight hour shift, he added.

Moy Park, based in Northern Ireland, employs about 10,000 workers at 13 sites in the province, England and France.
