Sumitomo Demag Plastics Machinery Is to Expand Annually Its IMM Production Capacity

Japanese-German plastics machinery maker Sumitomo Demag Plastics Machinery is planning to expand annually its injection molding machines (IMM) production capacity at its Chinese subsidiary Demag Plastics Machinery.

Featuring an investment of €7m, the planned expansion of Ningbo facility from 650 to 1,000 IMMs is expected to enable the company to address the increased demand in China and other markets and also pave the way for further increase in market share.

Besides opening up the possibility for production of further machine series from the Sumitomo (SHI) Demag product range, the expansion will also increase the company's existing 25% export ratio.

Demag currently manufactures the Systec C machine series with a clamping force ranging from 500 to 10,000 kN in Ningbo, China.

In addition to local processing enterprises, the company particularly supplies injection moulding plants in Southeast Asia, in the Middle East and in Latin America.

Demag Ningbo CEO Stephan Greif, who has been managing the Ningbo site since 2005, will also contribute his knowledge to the planned capacity expansion.
