Taiwan-based LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker Epistar had September revenues of NT$1.616 billion (US$54.7 million), representing a decrease on month of 6.09%, while LED packaging service provider Everlight Electronics had sales of NT$1.471 billion, down 6.78% from August. But respective third-quarter revenues for the companies will hit NT$5.004 billion, an increase on quarter of 2.16%, and NT$4.469 billion, a sequential increase of 3.68%, according to the companies.
Epistar noted that despite full capacity for blue LED products, AlGaInP LED demand has been growing weak moving into the fourth quarter. On the other hand, demand for blue LEDs for TV backlight and lighting applications is likely to be healthy until November.
Lextar, a LED subsidiary of AU Optronics (AUO), reported third-quarter revenues with an on-quarter growth of 10.8%. Upstream LED chipmaker Formosa Epitaxy also saw third-quarter revenues increase by 9.86% compared to the second quarter. Genesis Photonics reported on-quarter growth of 7.7% for the third quarter.
