Mexico's Car and Light Vehicle Exports Declined 3.8% in Q1

In March this year, production in the Mexican car and light vehicle industry fell 3.1 percent compared to the previous month and was down 11.2 percent from March 2012, amounting to 238,519 units, according to the the Mexican Association of Car Distributors (AMDA). In the first quarter of the year, the country's car and light vehicle production rose by two percent year on year to 727,571 units.

Meanwhile, Mexican car and light commercial vehicle sales to the domestic market totaled 82,767 units in March this year, falling one percent year on year, while the country's car and light commercial vehicle exports amounted to 204,475 units, decreasing 9.7 percent compared to March 2012. In the first quarter of 2013, Mexican car and light commercial vehicle sales to the domestic market rose 5.8 percent to 247,229 units, while its car and light commercial vehicle exports amounted to 558,375 units, down 3.8 percent, both compared to the first quarter of 2012.
