Subaru Has Announced Its New Eyesight Driver Assistance System at The 2013 Auto Show

Subaru of America has unveiled its new EyeSight driver assistance system, which will be debuted at the New York International Auto Show on 2013 Legacy and Outback models.

EyeSight which integrates adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and vehicle lane departure warning, will appear on other products in the Subaru line-up.

The new technology, which is capable of detecting obstacles in front of a parked car and limit potential damage in an impact, will become available later this year.

EyeSight uses two charge-coupled device (CCD) cameras developed by the automaker and is mounted inside the car on the upper edge of the windshield, which helps reduce the potential for damage that could occur in bumper-mounted systems, such as radar.

It also processes stereo images to identify the vehicles traveling in front, as well as obstacles, traffic lanes and other items.

The new system is capable of detecting pedestrians in the vehicle's path below speeds of about 19mph and can activate in order to mitigate or even avoid the collision.
