The robot can be programmed to draw any picture in the sand and can be controlled manually or given file images to draw.

For Disney, the whole world is a playground.

At least, this is what the latest creation from the studio’s research department suggests.

Not content with simply drawing characters on paper or screens, Research Disney has revealed BeachBot, an autonomous robot that can create artwork in the sand.

Using state of the art technology, the little orange robot has been modeled to look like a turtle and was created by the students and research egg-heads at the University of Zurich.

TechCrunch reports that the bot can create programmed pictures in the sand via its rake-like feature.

The robot can either be controlled manually or the artist can send it a file image to replicate. Using a mounted laser scanner and special reflected poles, the robot creates a map of its drawing field and then gets to work.

“The BeachBot is not just a lifeless, mechanical being; it is a firnedly looking creature with a soul,’ read a description on the robot’s official website.

There is no mention whether the BeachBot will be available to consumers any time soon.
