Chip Maker Epistar Has Received Orders with Shipments Scheduled Through The Q2 of 2014

LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker Epistar has received orders with shipments scheduled through the second quarter of 2014, according to the company.

Epistar said it has fully utilized its production capacity in Taiwan. It expects the revenue proportion for backlighting applications to decrease from 40-45% in 2013 to 40% in 2014, lighting to increase from 30% to 35-40%, and automotive applications to rise from 4-5% to 5-10%.

Epistar on February 10 reported consolidated revenues of NT$1.889 billion (US$62.4 million) for January, decreasing 7.73% sequentially but increasing 39.74% on year.

Fellow maker Genesis Photonics had NT$377 million in January consolidated revenues, growing 29.41% sequentially and 38.28% on year. It expects LED chips for lighting to account for over 50% of its 2014 consolidated revenues.

LED packaging firm Unity Opto Technology said it saw January consolidated revenues of NT$560 million rise 22.91% sequentially and 8.94% on year, driven mainly by increased light bulb shipments to the US and Europe.
