Cummins Are Recalling 25,013 Cummins Westport Model ISL G and ISLX12 G Engines

Engine manufacturers Cummins and Cummins Westport are recalling 25,013 Cummins Westport Model ISL G and ISLX12 G engines because of a potential issue with the intake manifold pressure sensor.

In affected engines, water moisture in the intake manifold may freeze in cold weather and interfere with the proper operation of the intake manifold pressure sensor. If the sensor malfunctions, the engine could be improperly fueled, resulting in higher than normal exhaust temperatures or flames from the exhaust pipe. In most cases, this improper operation will result in the engine running rough and misfiring, increasing the risk of a fire or burn injury to a person near the exhaust pipe.

Cummins and Cummins Westport dealers will upload a new ECM calibration, free of charge, to resolve the problem. The two companies began notifying the affected vehicle manufacturers on Feb. 14. The manufacturers have not yet provided a schedule for notifying vehicle owners.
