HJ Heinz Australia has recalled its canned beetroot over possible microbial growth in the products, according to the Food Standards Australia New Zealand.

The recalled product is 450g Golden Circle Beetroot Slices that is packed in a tin can, bearing Batch Code WO0544.

It has been distributed to Coles, Woolworths, IGA, convenience stores and some petrol stations across the nation.

The recall has been initiated due to a processing error that has the potential for microbial growth due to low liquid levels in the tin can.Consumption of the products with microbial growth may cause illness.

Customers who have purchased the recalled product can return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
