Trade Resources Industry Views PPG Industries Supported The Fifth National Transportation Vocational Skills Competition

PPG Industries Supported The Fifth National Transportation Vocational Skills Competition

PPG Industries supported the automotive body painting contest of the Fifth National Transportation Vocational Skills Competition by providing all coatings products for contestants. The competition was held at the Secondary Vocational School of Automotive Engineering in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, last month. It was the first time that waterborne coatings were used exclusively in the contest.

Hosted jointly by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the All China Federation of Trade Unions, and organized by the China Automotive Maintenance and Repair Trade Association, the contest attracted 193 participants from 24 locations around the country. It is one of the most important competitions in the Chinese automotive maintenance and repair industry.

“PPG is committed to nurturing automotive coating talent and has sponsored various significant contests across China,” said Pauline Yuen, PPG vice president, refinish coatings and light industrial coatings, Asia. “I hope PPG’s continuous efforts to promote environmentally-friendly and low-carbon products and the ‘green maintenance’ concept will contribute to the continuing transformation of China’s automotive maintenance and repair industry.”

According to PPG, with increasing car ownership, consumption of automotive refinish coatings is growing rapidly in China. Controlling and reducing VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions during the maintenance process is vitally important for environmental sustainability in the automotive refinish industry.

As pioneer in sustainable automotive maintenance and the first company to commercialize waterborne refinish basecoat system, PPG launched the first online training program for waterborne coatings user in China this year to promote standardization of the waterborne painting process in the region.
