Mets Board Upgrades Its Folding Boxboards, Avanta Prima, Simcote and Carta Elega

Finnish paper and pulp company Mets Board has made improvements to its folding boxboards, Avanta Prima, Simcote and Carta Elega.

The latest enhancements follow technical improvements that are made at the company's mills during the 2011-2012 investment program.

According to Mets Board, the upgrades improve the suitability of each cartonboard in the range for a particular packaging end-use such as food, beautycare, healthcare, or luxury packaging and graphics applications.

Mets Board Paperboard head Pasi Piiparinen said the changes give better performance in converting and printing, as well as an improved end result.

"Using a lighter weight board also offers sustainability benefits, as less raw material is used, less weight carried throughout the value chain and less waste is generated," Piiparinen said.

The bulk of Avanta Prima has been improved and the company has further light-weighted grammages across the range.

Developed to meet the requirements of the healthcare market, Avanta Prima's surface has been optimized to allow for 2D data matrix coding and its shade has also been optimized to improve visual whiteness.

Simcote, suitable for food packaging, has improved bulk for better yield while maintaining the same thickness and stiffness.

Metsa Board has optimized the shade of Carta Elega to improve enhance visual whiteness, which is said to be a key characteristic in the beautycare market.
