European Countries Are Happy with The Measures Taken by The Bangladesh Govt

The European countries are happy with the measures taken by the Bangladesh Government to ensure workplace safety in the country’s readymade garment manufacturing (RMG) units, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni has said.
 
Speaking at a press conference on her return from a trip to the EU and Singapore, the Minister said the EU leaders seemed happy with the various measures taken by the Bangladesh Government to ensure better working conditions for those employed in the country’s garment sector.
 
During her trip abroad, Ms. Moni met EU Trade Commissioner Karel de Gucht and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and apprised them of the action taken by the Bangladesh Government for improving workplace safety conditions in the country’s apparel sector after the devastating Rana Palza building collapse and the Tazreen Fashions fire tragedy.
 
She said the leaders promised her of EU’s continued support to the Bangladesh garment sector which employs millions of workers, most of whom are female.
 
Replying to a question on the continuation of the US Generalised System of Preference (GSP) facility for Bangladesh, the Minister said the US authorities are currently reviewing the same.
 
She added that a Bangladesh team comprising officials from the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Labour and Employment have discussed the GSP facility issue with the US authorities and the hearing on the same is now concluded.
 
The Minister expressed optimism that the decision of the review would be positive for Bangladesh.
