NSN Will Enhance Partnership with Taiwan's Manufacturers

During a recent visit in Taiwan, Greater China President of Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN), Markus Borchert, said NSN will enhance partnership with Taiwan’s manufacturers on the 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) and Time Division LTE (TD-LTE) wireless market.

Borchert pointed out that Taiwan is a world leader in chip, consumer-end smart equipment and wireless-connectivity equipment and the company is already the world’s No.2 LTE-system provider.

According to market research firm De110ro Group, as of the third quarter NSN has seized 21% of the global LTE market, making it the world No.2 and Asia’s No.1 supplier. The company has secured 70 orders for LTE system and 10 orders for TD-LTE system worldwide.

Borchert said NSN will invite Taiwan’s manufacturers to follow NSN into world LTE market. He noted that robust growth in mobile data traffic has pushed world governments to vigorously deploy LTE networks to tackle slowing traffic.

NSN’s latest studies estimated that mobile data traffic will spike around 1,000 folds in 2012 from now on.

In Taiwan, the company has installed the island’s first field-test TD-LTE network in cooperation with the National Chao Tung University. The network will expand to include LTE test. Its manufacturing partners in Taiwan include Foxconn, HTC, ZyXel, Delta Electronics, GemTek and Quanta Computer.

Gemtek projects to ship around 300,000 LTE machines by the end of 2012 and estimates the shipments to increase in 2013. LTE is estimated to contribute 10-20% of the company’s revenue in 2013, up from 1-2% in 2012.
