MIL Is Planning to Increase Its Denim Production Capacity to 30 Million Metres by 2015

Mafatlal Industries Limited (MIL), the flagship company of the Arvind Mafatlal Group, is planning to increase its denim production capacity to 30 million metres by 2015, Rajiv Dayal, MIL’s managing director said in a statement.

The denim production capacity at the company’s manufacturing unit at Navasari in Gujarat has recently been increased to 25 million metres from the earlier 20 million metres and it is further planned to increase the production capacity to 30 million metres by 2015, Mr. Dayal said.

According to Mr. Dayal, the overall Indian production of denim fabrics is approx 800 million meters per annum. Out of this, India’s export stands at around 200 million metres and the balance 600 million metres is consumed by the domestic market. Indian denim fabrics market is growing at a rate of about 8 to 12 percent compounded per annum.

Mafatlal Denim Limited, which last year merged with MIL, is basically a producer of value added and fashion denims for the mid and upper segments across India and worldwide. The company monitors global fashion trend and consumer preferences, developing denim fabrics on these trends.
