Some ODMs Will See Their Shipments of TVs Decline Sharply in 2013

Some ODMs will see their shipments of TVs decline sharply in 2013 due to decreasing global TV demand, according to industry sources.

Compal Electronics is expected to ship three million ODM TVs in 2013, down 37.5% from 4.8 million shipped a year earlier. Fellow company Wistron will also ship three million units in 2013, decreasing 28% from 4.2 million shipped in 2012, the sources indicated.

For 2014, Compal is expected to ramp up its ODM TV shipments to 5-6 million units following its acquisition of a Toshiba TV plant in Poland. Meanwhile, Wistron's ODM TV shipments will stay flat in 2014 as compared its performance in a year ago.

Two other major ODM TV makers, TPV Technology and Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), however, are expected to see their ODM TV shipments grow slightly or stay flat 2013, the sources added.

Global LCD TV shipments are estimated to reach 205 million units in 2013 compared to 204 million shipped a year earlier, according to Digitimes Research.
