CEA Has Proclaimed June as National Electricity Month in Canada

The Canadian Electricity Association (CEA)—whose members generate, transmit and distribute electrical energy—has proclaimed June as National Electricity Month in Canada (not to be confused with Electrical Safety Month). In communities across the country, member utilities will open their doors to the public, offering tours and answering questions about how the electricity system works.

"Electricity seems simple, seamless and reliable; so much so that people take it for granted," said Jim Burpee, CEA president and CEO. "We hope to encourage Canadians to think about all that goes into generating, transmitting and distributing electricity, and understand that investments will be required to ensure that our electricity system serves the changing needs of our children and grandchildren."

By allowing consumers to see how the system works first-hand, CEA hopes to "foster a national conversation on the value of electricity, stimulating and informing the discussion about the value of electricity to their lives at home and at work".

Electric utilities participating in National Electricity Month include:

? AltaLink

? BC Hydro and Power Authority

? Horizon Utilities Corp.

? Hydro One Inc.

? Hydro Ottawa Holding Inc.

? Manitoba Hydro

? Ontario Power Generation Inc.

? SaskPower

? Toronto Hydro Corp.
