Hyundai Genesis Sedan Will Debut a New, Cloud-Based Technology Platform with Google Glass

Hyundai Genesis to Be Compatible with Google Glass

The Hyundai Genesis sedan will debut a new, cloud-based technology platform called Blue Link Glassware capable of linking the car to an owner’s Google Glass device.

Hyundai Blue Link Glassware, available as an app on Genesis sedans, will allow drivers to integrate wearable devices such as Google Glass with their car’s in-built infotainment system.

As well as linking Google Glass navigation to a Genesis’ GPS – meaning a route entered on Google Glass will transfer to the Genesis’ system when a driver enters the car, and back to the device when the driver exits again – Blue Link Glassware will also allow drivers to remotely start, lock and find their Genesis through their Google Glass device.

The app is an addition to Hyundai’s existing Blue Link platform, which allows drivers to remotely access information about their car through external devices such as smartphones and tablets. Blue Link Glassware will also pair with Hyundai’s Car Care App, sending information about a car’s servicing and maintenance needs to a driver’s Google Glass, as well as other iOS and Android devices.

“As a leader in connected car technology, we’re always exploring new ways to use technology to enhance the ownership experience for our customers,” said Hyundai America executive director for customer connect and service business development Barry Ratzlaff.

“Wearables are a great way to extend the ownership experience outside the vehicle by leveraging these small screens to quickly access remote features and deliver timely vehicle information.”

While Hyundai’s release of the Glassware app marks it as one of the first manufacturers to successfully integrate Google Glass, it is not alone in developing a system to utilise the technology; in late 2013, Mercedes announced it is working on developing a similar system.

Though unconfirmed at this stage, CarAdvice understands Hyundai Australia is preparing to launch the new Genesis sedan in our market around July as a cut-price rival to the likes of the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

The Hyundai Genesis sedan will make its official public debut at next week’s Detroit auto show.
