The Government-Backed Silicon Roundabout High-Tech Incubator Has Been Criticised

The government-backed Silicon Roundabout high-tech incubator has been criticised by the think tank Centre for London in a report published today.

The report points to a shortage of mentoring facilities, rising rents, inadequate broadband and a skills shortage brought about by poor education and visa restrictions.

The report also criticises planned moves to extend the hub to the Olympic Park after the games. This risks 'diminishing the energy' of the incubator, says the report.

The report also criticises the lack of business skills of the entrepreneurs in the incubator and found 'surprisingly little appaetite for developing firms into global players'.

The entrepreneurs knew little of the government policies for developing high-tech, and the fledgling firms needed 'help from experienced managers adept at expanding businesses', says the report.
