Pablo Isasmendi Has Been Named President of British Glass for 2013 at The November 2012

Guardian Press Release: Pablo Isasmendi, Managing Director of Guardian Industries UK Glass Division, has been named president of British Glass for 2013 at the November 2012 British Glass Members Meeting on 15 November 2012 at the Mercure St Pauls Hotel, Sheffield.

Guardian Glass UK have been members of British Glass for many years, and work closely with British Glass to protect and promote glass and glass manufacturing in the UK.  Changes in regulations and legislation often can put the manufacturers of glass in a precarious position so British Glass provides a knowledgeable and leading voice for the glass industry.  The team at British Glass are dedicated to ensuring that regulatory and legislative policies do not have a negative impact on glass manufacturers and associated industries.  They ensure that open lines of communication are sustained between the glass industry the government and regulators.

The revision of the Glass Charter, on Health and Safety, is a recent example of the work Guardian and others have been doing with British Glass.  The Glass Charter promotes and gives recognition to best practice within the glass industry and helps the industry to work within a safe and considered environment.  Other pressing issues raised by government such as Climate Change Policy, are also carefully reviewed by British Glass who recently encouraged members of DECC (Department of Energy & Climate Change) to visit Guardian’s plant at Goole, East Yorkshire and see the manufacturing process first hand.  This helped DECC staff to better understand the glass manufacturing process better and furthered discussions regarding the potential impact policy can have on the industry.  This year has also seen new initiatives, such as the Green Deal.  Through British Glass the flat glass manufacturers have been able to jointly formulate consultation responses which directly reflect their sector concerns.  These kinds of discussions and responses are imperative to ensure industry and jobs aren’t driven abroad as a result of poorly considered policy and legislation.

With Pablo taking the helm as president of British Glass, beginning in January 2013, Guardian are keen to increase the presence of the flat glass manufacturers within British Glass and to continue to work closely with the organization to help ensure Guardian and the wider glass industry are kept up to date on potential changes in regulations and legislation.  Pablo, who has a Master’s Degree in Engineering, has been in the glass industry for over 20 years, and was part of the original team to build and commission Guardian’s float glass line in Tudela, Spain.  In 2006 Pablo moved to the UK to manage engineering and maintenance at Guardian UK, becoming Managing Director of Guardian Industries UK glass division in 2007.  With Pablo’s wealth of experience in glass manufacturing he has much to offer as the president of British Glass.
