BenQ is planning to release a new 42-inch direct-type LED TV and a 55-inch smart TV in order to meet growing trends among smart products in Taiwan, according to industry sources.
BenQ said that according to statistics, 3D TV shipments will increase from 3.5% in 2011 to 30% in 2014 with smart TVs rising from 12% to 45% during the same period. BenQ added that Taiwan has a fast evolving electronics environment and that smart TVs will be popular among consumers.
BenQ's 55-inch smart TV is estimated to be released in September and the company hopes to reach a penetration rate between 15-20% in Taiwan's smart TV market in 2012. BenQ also estimates 32- and 42-inch LED TVs will make up 40% of its sales during the same time.
BenQ will cut CCFL TV production, along with many other TV brands, as LED backlight penetration is expected to reach 80% in 2013, added sources.
