BMW Is Planning to Further Invest GBP 250m to Expand Mini Facilities in UK

German luxury-car maker BMW is planning to invest GBP250m over the next three years to increase the production of MINI at its facilities in Oxford, Birmingham and Swindon in the UK.

The company is also planning to produce up to 10 different Mini models in the new line of vehicles in the mid-term, along with the potential for further production capacity addition at Oxford facility.

BMW Group Board of Management member Harald Krueger said a year ago the company had announced a further investment of GBP500m in their UK production network by 2014 and today the company is announcing an additional £250m, taking it through to 2015.

"This brings the total to £1.75 billion since 2000," Krueger said.

"Plant Oxford has played a major role in this with cars being exported to over 100 countries around the world."

According to BMW, part of the new investment is to develop specific production facilities to meet the requirements, which include additional production of engines and body panels from the Hams Hall and Swindon facilities following the increased production of MINI model line-up.
