There Will Be More on These Trade Fairs , Including More Coloured Jewellery

Tags: Arts, Crafts

The invitation-only JCK Luxury jewellery tradeshow at Mandalay Bay Convention Center started off slow but by the second day the aisles were busy with buyers and booths for the most part were active. At this point the other major shows Couture, JCK Las Vegas and JCK Swiss Watch haven't yet started. There will be more on these trade fairs in the next few days, including more coloured jewellery.

Exhibitors at JCK Luxury expressed a very positive attitude toward business in general as well as the overall economy. They believe consumers are buying jewelry again and this seems to be backed up by first quarter data from independent jewellers and the large retail jewellery chains. Retailers are also saying that business has been significantly better in the first quarter, however, they say it's too early to celebrate. Vendors and retailers say that consumers are still looking for value and safe purchases.

However, optimism is still the prevailing emotion being expressed.

"I think people (at the show) are much more positive than they were two years ago and they have the dollars to back it up," said Brian Watkins, president of Ritani, a jewellery manufacturer that is developing a consumer e-Commerce website with independent retailers.

Among the Highlights of the second day included:

* Bridal jewellery designer Danhov introduced colour to its engagement rings with its "Pop Of Color" collection based on birthstones.

"Pop of Color" collection by Danhov * Yael Designs unveiled an emerald jewellery collection cantered high quality sliced emeralds with a rose cut finish.

* Jewellery designer Miiori presented several new pieces using high-quality gems and diamonds in a number of creative ways.

* Indian jewellery designer Amrapali introduced several big colourful lines using a variety of gemstones.
